Roger Joseph Lucero

10.02.26

Roger “Joseph” Lucero born January 9,1961

Completed his beautiful earthly journey on October 2, 2026, surrounded by loved ones in his Hometown of Trinidad, Co

Joseph was so much more than one person could ever put into words. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, godfather, and friend. To those blessed enough to know and love him, Joseph was a presence you simply could not forget.

He was spunky, outspoken, full of life, and always ready for a good time. Joseph had a personality that filled a room. He could make you laugh, tell you exactly what was on his mind, and somehow turn an ordinary family gathering into a memory that would be talked about for years.

Joseph believed strongly in respect. Respect meant everything to him, and in Joseph’s eyes, respect went a long way. He believed in treating people right, standing by your word, loving your family, and never forgetting where you came from.

But beneath that strong, outspoken personality was a man whose heart belonged to his family.

On November 23, 1990, Joseph married the love of his life, Mary “Vicky” Lucero. Together they built a life filled with family, children, grandchildren, celebrations, struggles, laughter, love, and countless memories. Through the years and all of life’s seasons, theirs was a story they built together—a family and legacy that will continue long after Joseph’s passing.

Joseph was a proud and loving father to John Velverde; Patricia (Cesar) Salinas; Amber (Adam) Aleman; Misty Lucero; and Leonard Lucero.

Becoming a grandfather brought even more love into Joseph’s life. His grandchildren, Manuel, Ava, Midge, Anaya, Jose, Xavier, Aliciana, Angel, Nevaeh, Legna, and Jonavon, will carry pieces of their grandpa with them forever. His stories, personality, sayings, laughter, and love will live on through them and through the generations that follow.

Joseph also held a special place in his heart for his goddaughter, Jolleen Montano.

A few accomplishments Joseph was very proud of was Him completing his GED, owning a Local Family Restaurant “Gorditos” and also becoming a certified massage therapist.

Family gatherings simply won’t feel the same without Joseph. He loved being surrounded by the people he cared about. He was a great cook, and there was something special about gathering around food Joseph had prepared. Cooking was another way he showed his love—bringing everyone together around the table, where stories were told, laughter was shared, and memories were made.

And there was always room for music.

Joseph loved jamming out to Spanish music and the music of the ’70s. Those familiar songs will forever carry a different meaning now. Somewhere in the middle of a favorite song, his family will remember his voice, his smile, his moves, his laughter, and that unmistakable Joseph personality.

And, of course, Joseph loved his Denver Broncos. Win or lose, he was a fan, and his family will undoubtedly think of him whenever those orange and blue colors fill the screen.

He shared the bonds of family with his siblings, his brothers Frank, Henry, Steven, Nathan, Sammy, Ray, and Ray (Berta); and his sisters Lisa and Debbie.

Joseph’s family extended far beyond those named here. He was blessed with numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who became family. Each knew a different side of Joseph, and each carries memories that will keep his spirit alive.

As difficult as it is to say goodbye, there is comfort in imagining the beautiful reunion that awaited Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ernestine Aragon; Father Joe M Lucero, his stepmother, Flora Garcia; Mother in law & Father in law Ben & Margaret Montano, his sister, JoAnn Lucero; Cathy (Alfred) Freyta; baby Sister baby Amy Lucero, Brother in law Leonard Montano and precious angel grandbabies Marcos, Emiliano, Vanessa, and Baby Angel, who met Jesus before their grandpa did.

We can only imagine the moment Joseph was welcomed home—embraced by those he had missed and meeting up with those precious little angels who went to Heaven before him.
What a beautiful reunion that must have been.

For those left behind, there will be an emptiness that cannot be explained. There will be an empty seat at family gatherings, a missing voice in the conversation, and moments when everyone wishes they could hear Joseph laugh just one more time.

But Joseph didn’t leave his family empty-handed.
He left them with memories.
He left the sound of Spanish and ’70s music that will make them stop and smile.
He left recipes and meals that will never taste quite the same without him.
He left stories that will be told over and over again.
He left his outspoken ways, his spunk, his loyalty, his lessons about respect, and a love for family that will continue through his children and grandchildren.

He left a legacy.

Joseph lived his life being unapologetically himself, and that is exactly how he will be remembered: full of life, full of personality, surrounded by family, with good food cooking and good music playing.

There will never be another Joseph.

He was loved deeply in this life, and he will be missed more than words could ever express.
May we find comfort knowing that this is not goodbye forever. Until the day we meet again, Joseph will live on in every story told, every family gathering, every favorite song, every Broncos game, and every memory that makes us laugh through our tears.

Rest peacefully, Joseph.

Keep the music playing, keep watch over your family, hug those angel grandbabies tightly, and know that the love you gave here will never be forgotten.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever a part of us.
We are asking everyone in attendance at services to wear Denver Bronco gear in honor of Joseph.

Rosary and Mass will be on
Thursday October 15, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad, CO 81082
at 12:30pm and 1:00pm.
