Edeltraud "Edy" Mingus born May 6, 1951, in the quaint town of Kraiburg am Inn, Bavaria. Edy was the treasured daughter of Ella Owens and Noel Rey Owens, who preceded her in death along with her dear son, Corbyn Matthew Ruelas.
Edy's journey through life was marked by her unyielding love and devotion to her family. She is survived by her adoring husband, Juan Ruelas, with whom she shared a profound and enduring love since their meeting in 1981. Together, they nurtured a vibrant and loving family that included her children, Harry Gomez of Denver, Colorado; Tina Gomez-Ferry and her husband Robert Ferry, with their six children and nine grandchildren of Aurora, CO; Mechelle Latshaw, with her three children and three grandchildren of Chatsworth, GA; and Loretta Hill-Knaus, with her three children and eleven grandchildren of McAlpin, FL. Additionally, Edy is survived by her seven stepchildren and a multitude of other cherished grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Edy dedicated herself to caring for others, spending much of her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant in various end-of-life care units at Good Samaritan Nursing Home and Boulder Manor Nursing Home. Her compassionate heart touched the lives of hundreds of patients, offering them comfort and dignity during their final days.
Edy's spirit was as vibrant as the flowers she lovingly tended in her many gardens. She found joy in the simplest pleasures, from camping and roller skating to engaging family gatherings filled with laughter and love. She also well known for her adoration of music and dancing in her beloved kitchen. A skilled cook, Edy delighted in preparing meals that brought her family together. She was known for her quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and the wise counsel she generously shared with those around her. A night spent with Edy often included heartfelt conversations over a warm cup of coffee and a spirited game of “Five”.
Edy's family was the center of her universe, and she relished her role as the family matriarch. Her legacy of love and care will continue to flourish in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered love and support during this difficult time. A special thank you is extended to Elizabeth Romero for the compassionate care she provided during Edy's final moments.
A visitation/service to celebrate Edy's remarkable life will be held on August 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Comi Funeral Home, located at 1804 East Main Street, Trinidad, Colorado, 81082.
Followed by her internment at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery at approximately 2:00 PM located at 2366 E Main St, Trinidad, Colorado, 81082.
Then to be followed by reception at The Old School House Venue and Reception Hall located at 2221 County Road 71.4, Trinidad, CO, 81082
